Hedger

A market participant who uses derivatives to reduce risk from an existing or planned exposure.

A hedger is a market participant who takes a derivatives position specifically to reduce risk from an exposure they already have — such as an investor protecting an existing stock holding, or a business protecting against a future price change in raw materials.
