How crypto profit is calculated
Coins = Investment × (1 − Buy fee) ÷ Buy price
Proceeds = Coins × Sell price × (1 − Sell fee)
Profit = Proceeds − Investment − Tax on gainsWorked example
You invest 1,000 in Bitcoin at 60,000 with a 0.1% fee, getting about 0.016650 BTC. Selling at 75,000 with a 0.1% fee returns about 1,247.50 — a profit of 247.50, or 24.75%. Fees cost about 2.25 in total, so the price only needs to rise to about 60,120 for you to break even.
Frequently asked questions
How are exchange fees included?
The buy fee is deducted from your investment before coins are bought, and the sell fee is deducted from the sale proceeds — the way most exchanges charge trading fees.
How is crypto taxed?
It depends on your country. In India, gains on crypto (virtual digital assets) are taxed at a flat 30% plus cess with no set-off of losses, and 1% TDS applies on sales. In the US and UK, crypto is taxed as capital gains. Enter your rate in the tax field.
Does this work for any coin?
Yes. Enter the buy and sell price per coin in the same currency as your investment, for Bitcoin, Ethereum or any altcoin.
